Didáctica de la Lengua Extranjera II (Curso 2017/2018)

Objetivos

    The aim of this subject is giving students the basis to achieve an intermediate level of English as well as necessary tools to design activities for the different skills to be included in a didactic unit within the field of teaching of English as a Foreign Language. The same as their future students, the goal is that teachers-students obtain the necessary knowledge and background on the general and specific objectives that the processes of both teaching and learning English as a Foreign Language imply.

Competencias

    - Basis for a Intermediate Level of English as a Foreign Language
    - Notions on the meaning of teaching and learning and how to teach the Language System
    - Resources on how to teach the different skills (Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening); overview of strategies on Lesson Planning, the use of Textbooks and Testing.
    - Basis for designing and presenting a didactic unit: concept, features and previous aspects; elements of a didactic unit: introduction and previous aspects, importance, connection with curriculum, diagnosis and previous concepts, connection with other units, general objectives, specific objectives (communicative competences), contents: communication; context and linguistic resources, teaching-learning activities, didactic and technological means, sequencing, methodology, consolidation and retaking, attention to diversity, evaluation.

Resultados de aprendizaje

    - Fluency as users of an Intermediate Level of English as a Foreign Language
    - Skillfulness in the techniques on how to teach the different language skills; knowledge of basic notions of didactic programming and command of the fundamental features a didactic unit should have.
    - Competence in delivering a presentation on a didatic unit.

Requisitos previos

    Requirements:
    - Minimum Level of English B1, although higher levels are desirable.
    - Notions on the teaching of English as a Foreign Language.
    - Interest in the Language and Culture of English Speaking Countries.
    
    NOTE: It is important to note that students must be aware that the mere fact of having knowledge about how to speak and write English does not qualify them as teachers of English as a Foreign Language.

    PART ONE: ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE
    1.    Total English (Intermediate): Units 1 to 3

Actividades formativas

    1. Along Part I: students will be asked to develop activities in the classroom either individually or in teams.
    2. After Part I: there will be a test on the contents learnt in class, following the instructions offered on the different skills/parts of the exam: Listening, Reading, Writing, Use of English, Speaking (20% of marks each).
    3. Along Part II: students will be asked to develop activities in the classroom either individually or in teams.
    4. After Part II: students will be asked to design activities for the different skills to be included in a didactic unit individually. The final assessment will consist on an individual presentation that students will deliver in the classroom according to the notions learnt in the subject.
    5. Distribution of marks: Parts I: 40 % of the final mark and final presentation: 60% of the final mark.

Sistema y criterios de evaluación
