Degree in Telematic Engineering


The degree in Telematic Engineering is structured over four years and trains professionals in the fields of data communications between computers and systems. It involves in-depth study of how computer networks work and the design and programming of products and services, using the current capacities of networks, including mobile devices. 


During the first and second year students study basic subjects such as computer systems, the content of telematic systems, and online telematic services. In the last two years of the course, students come into full contact with the reality of the profession, completing their training in areas such as telematic applications, multimedia services, network administration and communication network security.

There is a strong emphasis on practical work. For example, in application programming and development, students learn to develop client/server systems, web services and services based on databases; in electronics, they measure and build automatic systems and programme microcontrollers; in communications networks, they configure network devices, manage communications and configure network services. 


Students can use the Communications Network laboratory, where they create and analyse different data communication architectures and protocols; Computer Languages and Systems laboratories, where they use programmes for different subjects such as programming, developing online services or simulating communications networks and services; the Electronics laboratory, where they build and analyse electronic circuits and devices of varying degrees of complexity, and the Electronic Systems laboratory, where they use microprogrammed systems to create electronic systems.

Telecommunications and computing engineers and doctors form the teaching staff for this degree. The lecturers have extensive professional experience in the specific fields they teach, as they work in well-known companies in the sector such as Telefónica de España, Denodo Technologies, EADS, etc.

Unique Features

Students can carry out tutored practical work and experience their future professional field at first hand, thanks to visits to companies as important to the sector as Oracle, Telefónica I+D, Accenture, Astec, etc. Students visit companies and are introduced to the workings of different departments.

Especially in the final years, students work with their lecturers on research tasks and projects, such as projects to simulate intermodal traffic systems, cloud computing management systems and configuration, tracking operators with GPS, etc.

Employment Opportunities

The career opportunities for these graduates may be in companies which implement and develop network communications systems, telephony, data and TV operators, telecom engineering consultants, companies which design, develop and implement software systems and services, or in developing internet or mobile phone services.
