Degree in Telecommunication Systems Engineering
Presentation
The Telecommunications Systems Engineering degree is structured over four years, training students in the field of communications, both by physical means - copper pair, coaxial, optical fibre, etc., and wirelessly - communications via satellite, mobile communications, etc.
At UAX
During the first and second year, general engineering and telecommunications subjects are taught. In the last two years of the course, students come into full contact with the reality of the profession, completing their training in areas such as antennas and transmission media, radio communication systems, optical communications and fixed and mobile radio communication.
The UAX course takes a strongly practical approach to the different subjects. For this reason, in digital treatment students will learn about signal filtering and transmission using digital control techniques; in antennas, they will learn antenna design and parameterisation techniques; in optical communications, they measure the parameters of a fibre and design fibre infrastructures for data services: in high frequency, the analyse the signal and parameters of a high frequency signal.
Facilities
In the Electronics laboratory students create and analyse circuits and electronic devices of different levels of complexity.
In the Electronic Systems laboratory they use microprogrammed systems to create electronic systems.
In the Optical Communications laboratory they use fibre optic equipment to analyse, cut, fuse and evaluate the characteristics of this medium.
In the Communications Networks laboratory they execute and analyse different data communications architectures and protocols.
In the High Frequency laboratory they can observe the behaviour of high frequency systems and analyse how they affect the design parameters.
Lecturers
The teaching staff consists of engineers and doctors in the fields of telecommunications and computing with professional experience in the specific subjects they teach. Lecturers work in specific specialisation areas of the degree, in Telefónica, Indra, the Ministry of Defence, etc.
Unique Features
Students undertake tutored internships in public and private companies with which Alfonso X el Sabio University has educational cooperation agreements. These include Telefónica, Vodafone, Soluziona, Retevision, Jazztel, Agilent, etc.
Especially in the final year, there are visits to companies and seminars by external personnel, offering a view of the business world where students will work after finishing their degree. They will experience work in companies like Accenture, Indra and ESA at first hand.
Together with lecturers, students can take part in research tasks and projects such as the design of satellite television systems, the project of installing infrastructure for IP Television, designing an intelligent control system for a home, etc.
Employment Opportunities
Telecommunications Systems Engineering graduates can work in different professional fields as systems consultants, telecommunications consultants, or directors of ICT infrastructure projects. They can also work in planning, designing and implementing network infrastructures, mobile and satellite communications engineering, and in radiofrequency and radiodetermination systems engineering.
