Degree in Computer Engineering


The syllabus of the UAX Computer Engineering degree is structured over four years in which students acquire skills for conceiving, planning and directing programming projects, or defining, evaluating and selecting the hardware and software platforms which best meet the needs of a given environment.


A foundation in mathematics, physics, economics and sociology is combined with English teaching in a syllabus where students can select, assess and create new concepts, theories, uses and technological developments relating to computer programming and its application.

This fusion of skills will give them the ability to organise and manage computer systems and services in business or institutional contexts, taking responsibility for starting them up and leading the technological changes which companies demand in the new Information Society. 


The Computer Systems laboratory is equipped with software tools enabling the development of programming solutions such as online services, concurrent and real time systems, expert systems, and software for the latest generation mobile devices.  The Operating Systems laboratory lets students do practical work relating to systems administration in hybrid Linux/Windows environments, virtualisation, and automating tasks in specific languages such as Python and bash-scriptin. The Networks laboratory helps them in planning, configuring and administering local area networks, developing VPNs, configuring routers and firewalls, etc.; there are also Computer Architecture and Electronics laboratories.


The teaching staff consists of industry professionals who provide services in leading companies developing new information and communications technologies, such as Telefónica, INSA (NASA), and DeNodo, enabling students to obtain constantly updated expertise.

Unique Features

Our students develop applications and corporate solutions with the latest generation programming languages, work on the planning, development and implementation of computer solutions, and administer and develop applications for operating systems in the Linux and Windows families.

At Alfonso X el Sabio University, Computer Engineering students are offered internships in cutting edge companies such as Accenture, Oracle, HP, Indra, Ernst & Young, Telefónica I+D, PWC, and British Telecom.

Students are guided in professional and academic matters by a personal tutor. Company days are provided by corporations such as Accenture, Dell, Indra, Astra and ENTEL, and there are also visits to industry companies such as Telvent and HP.

Students at the University can also participate in research projects managed by the Alfonso X el Sabio University Foundation on Grid Computing, HTC, Android systems, positioning and personal detection systems, smart systems, etc.

Employment Opportunities

The most common career openings include managing computing departments, directing and organising programming projects, work in application development centres, the design, selection and evaluation of computing infrastructures, and the analysis and design of computer systems. Graduates can also work in database systems, communications infrastructures, technical consulting, computer auditing, research and teaching.
