Degree in Civil Engineering, Transport and Urban Services

Presentation

Graduates in Civil Engineering, Transport and Urban Services will be the professionals in charge of planning, directing and executing the distribution of electricity, sanitation networks, and transport hubs, i.e., systems requiring logistics with an overall vision and planning for future growth. 

At UAX

Basic subjects such as mathematics, languages, computing, graphic representation, materials chemistry and geology will be taught in the first two years.

In the following years, students will acquire the skills needed for creating and monitoring plans for urban mobility, traffic actions, the management and control of modal transport hubs, zoning, the distribution of populations in urban areas, and designing basic rotational elements in airports and train stations.

In the final years of the course there is real specialisation in subjects such as the management and operation of airports, railway management, the operation of ports and roads, and the design of urban leisure areas. 

Facilities

UAX has modern laboratories and workshops specialising in urban mobility models, modal distribution and urban services so that students can acquire the skills they need in the specialisation of Transport and Urban Services in Civil Engineering.

Also, laboratories, including physics, chemistry, materials, geology, environmental engineering, fluid mechanics and hydraulics, enable students to put the knowledge acquired in theory classes into practice.

Lecturers

Most of the teaching staff are doctors and civil engineers, as well as physicists, chemists and mathematicians with solid teaching experience and important professional careers in the field of transport and urban services, who will help students make contact with professional fields. Lecturers include town planning engineers working in government bodies, project engineers in utilities companies supplying the regions, logistical control engineers in the leading public and private transport sector companies, etc.

Unique Features

Students are encouraged to take up internships in the most sought-after companies in this field, such as Aena, Ineco-Tifsa, Empresa Municipal de Transportes de Madrid, Morrison, Gamesa, Mecsa, Renfe, Dragados, Velasco, Cemosa, the town planning departments of local governments and town councils, etc.

Each year, students participate in company days organised by UAX Upper Polytechnic School. They also visit important civil engineering projects relating to their specialised subject. These include the DGT’s Traffic Control Centre, the Madrid Metro Planning Centre, the Adif Control Centre and some building sites for air traffic control and marine transport infrastructure.

Employment Opportunities

The most common career openings are as site manager and technical assistant in the construction of ports, airports and sanitation systems, and their management, control and logistics.

Graduates can also work in companies creating urban mobility plans, drawing up town planning projects, in the roads department, civil engineering companies, building companies involved with transport and urban services, and in urban services themselves, their building, supply and sanitation projects, cleaning and road construction, waste management and collection control centres, public lighting, sports facilities, traffic and urban transport.
