In its urge to encourage inter-university co-operation, the European Union has started the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). This system is based on the principle of mutual trust among the higher teaching institutions which accept and acknowledge the education that students can follow abroad- to be more exact, in the different EU and in the EFTA countries.
