Degree in Pharmacy (5 yrs)

Pharmacy is regarded as a link between health sciences and chemical sciences, and is in charge of ensuring the safe use of medication. The pharmacy practice is aimed at compounding and dispensing medications on the orders of physicians, and it also includes more modern services related to patient care, including clinical services, reviewing medications for safety and effectiveness, and providing drug information.

Under the Directive 85/432/CEE, the degree of Pharmacy train students who will become experts on drug therapy and optimize medication use to provide patients with positive health outcomes.

Under RD 2708/82, this traditional multidisciplinary scientific training of pharmacists offers a syllabus encompassing the aforementioned knowledge, both at a global and vocational level.

Second Year Summary
Annual subject (A)
2700 - Physiology (A) back

Compulsory; 4,5 ECTS/semester; 3 Hs per week

Description:
The "Human Physiology" studies the operation of the human organism as a whole, understood like result of the correct interaction of the diverse cellular and molecular processes that integrate it. We can summarize our general missions in: - To acquire a correct vision of the operation of the Sensorial and Motor systems, of the named Superior Functions of the Nervous System, and the regulating mechanisms that take part in these functions. - To include/understand the possibilities that the Central Nervous System offers to explain the unit and functional coordination of the individual, the capacity to acquire data about the outer realities and of the internal changes, to program and to execute diverse activities, to mediate the behavior or the development of the psychic life, etc. - To obtain a correct learning of the Cardiovascular Function that allows to watch the physiological bases of some cardiovascular diseases as well as the places of performance of diverse drugs. - To acquire a correct vision of the "Vegetative Functions" - Systems Respiratory, Renal, Digestive and Reproducer for the life of the man, as well as of the regulating mechanisms that take part in these functions. - To discover the importance of the Endocrine System and of including/understanding the governing paper that along with has the Nervous System in the attainment of homeostasia and in the coordination of the diverse activities that allow to the correct development and operation of the human organism.

Description:
This course constitutes an education of present Organic Chemistry, to learn basic rules and concepts that allow us to relate the structure and reactivity of an organic compound to the reaction mechanisms. Emphasis in understanding more that the chemical reactivity of a compound comes determined by its structure, than in an encyclopaedic knowledge of chemical reactions will become. Biological examples will be used to illustrate the more important organic reactions, leaving the impact of Organic Chemistry in the nature, society and pharmaceutical industry. Exercises of problems will be solved that reinforce the learned concepts and illustrate the fact that the organic reactions are predictable, using terms of mechanistic similarity
