Degree in Environmental Science (4 yrs)

The degree in Environmental Sciences meets the current society’s needs by developing tools for environment care and protection. The environmental resources are our future; that’s why, it’s necessary the presence of professionals, who are qualified enough to face the large number of problems related to this subject.

The industrial and business sectors are asked more and more often to have a greater environmental responsibility. Thus, the UAX university, conscious of the labour demand and the special sensitivity needed in this field, trains professionals in this degree coming up to the growing environmental industry’s expectations.

Description:
We will study the concepts of sucession, limits and continuity in a comprehensive concept of metric space, in order to reach a deeper understanding of the diferentiation theory in a general framework. We will also study the primitive calculus methods. In a second part, we will deepen in the concepts of definite integral and its applications, in order to introduce integration on curves, surfaces and multidimensional regions. We will use the concepts studied for the resolution of exercises, putting a special attention to application in engineering problems.

Description:
The goal of this subject is to provide the students the principles and general basis of Ecology. We try to make the student understand a comprehensive concept of Ecology, as a global science or science of systems (Ecosystems), where a series of elements with specific characteristics take part and a series of interactions are produced. In particular, we want to study the interactions of the physical - natural environment and of living beings. Later, we will stress the interactions and interconnexions of the process occured in this environment and their importance in human society. We will apply the knowledge stemming from natural ecosystems in order to develop industrial ecosystems making economic development and environmental conservation compatible, putting a special attention on the concept of sustainable development.

To establish a first contact with chemical experiments in the laboratory, with a progressive increase in the difficulty of the tasks to be made.

Description:
Content: This subject constitutes an introductory lesson of current Organic Chemistry, to learn rules and basic concepts which will allow to establish relations between structure and reactivity of an organic compound with mechanisms of reaction. We will pay special attention to understand that chemical reactivity of a compound is determined by it structure. We will use biological examples and examples of industrial application in order to illustrate the most important organic reactions, to make evident the incidence of Organic Chemistry in environment, society and industry. We will continue providing students knowledge in Biochemistry, establishing the relation between metabolic life of the most elementary living being with the notions of the subjects already studied. In this way the magnitude of natural elements become evident . We will study in depth topics such some metabolic cycles, genetics and their control systems.

Description:
Primary pollutants and sources in air pollution are presented. Control technologies are presented, also for particulate and gazeus pollutants. Parameter for air quality should be studied as a principle to air quality control indoor. Last, noise is presented as environmental hazard to human beings, several solution are proposed.

Description:
The main goal is the acquisition and use of several techniques concerning environmental arrangement as useful tools in the environmental field for the optimum placing of activities in the environment, for the prevention and reduction of the impacts and for the adequate manegement of the natural resources in a sustainable development. Inventory of social, legal and administrative factors. Definition of synthesis units as integration of environmental variables. Use of advanced tools in territorial arrangement: geographical information systems and teledetection.

Description:
We introduce the student in the study of the environmental impact as a whole of studies to identify, predict and interpret and in special, prevent the environmental effects that certain actions, plans or projects may cause to health or human Welfare. In the second part of the subject, we introduce the student the analysis and the specific methodology for the environmental impact treatment as well as the effectiveness of this tool to evaluate the effects of a new activity to the environment.

Content: This subject is the compulsory introduction to Technologies that will finally shape the student 's curriculum. For that reason, the student must have, from the beginning, a global knowledge of engineering and what it represents (thousands of substances demanded by society; different processes for obtain them; safety to manipulate them, transports, etc.; needs to safeguard environment; classification of industries and their social and economic positioning;...). For that reason, after a brief exposition on processes and their evolution we will continue with macroscopic balances and conclude with expositions and applications of transport phenomena.
