Degree in Civil Engineering, Hydrology

Presentation

Graduates of the Civil Engineering, Hydrology course will be highly qualified professionals for managing and executing public works in the service of society involving the regulation and supply of water and electricity and infrastructure development, enhancing environmental sustainability.

At UAX

During the first two years of the course, students will acquire the specific skills of Civil Engineering. Beginning with the third year, they will be trained in professional skills for creating projects and dimensions for hydraulic systems supplying drinking water or for irrigation, water supply and regulation systems, and networks and systems for planning and managing surface and subterranean water resources.

Finally, students in this subject will learn about urban services projects relating to water supply and distribution and sanitation, and their dimensions, construction and conservation.  

Facilities

Laboratories, including physics, chemistry, construction materials, geology, geotechnics, topography and hydrology, enable students to put the knowledge acquired in theory classes into practice. The University has special laboratories for Civil Engineering, Hydrology students to acquire practical knowledge of surface water, subterranean water, heat transmission systems, rain simulation systems, pluviometric readings, water purification by applying electric current, and other subjects.
Lecturers

Most of the teaching staff are doctors, civil engineers, physicists, chemists and mathematicians with solid teaching experience and important professional careers in the field of hydraulic projects, who will help students make contact with professional fields such as the use of aquifers and surface waters, the design and layout of canals, calculating the stability of dams, designing pressurised pipes, calculating hydroelectrical systems and applying renewable energy. 

Unique Features

There are yearly company days and visits to important civil engineering projects in Spain, so that students can have direct contact with fieldwork. These include visits to the construction work on the Yesa dam, the Atazar dam, the Hydrodynamic Experience Centre and different water treatment plants in the Madrid Region.

Employment Opportunities

The most common career opportunities for Civil Engineering, Hydrology graduates are as site directors and technical assistants in the construction of pumping systems and dams, sanitation systems, and public water supply networks. Holders of this degree can also work in water treatment network management centres, in management in the public works departments of local government, in electricity companies, in civil engineering companies, in construction companies linked to the hydraulic field, in hydrographical confederations, in hydraulic and sanitation maintenance centres, etc.
