Degree in Architecture

Presentation

The Architecture Degree at Alfonso X el Sabio University is structured as three main areas of knowledge: Basic Sciences, Drawing, and Technology and Projects.  A series of disciplines complement these blocks, such as Restoration, Sustainable Design, Project Management and Town Planning Management, along with intensive training in languages and business skills.

At UAX

The academic programme of Alfonso X el Sabio University focuses on fundamentals and on the contemporary, combining the creative and artistic side with technical and scientific skills, rather than following more ethereal and less functional educational models. Optional elements in the study plan include specialisations in Project Management, Architecture Competitions, Restoration of Built Heritage, Town Planning Management, and Landscape and Garden Design.

Facilities

The drawing studio and model-making workshop are the main spaces. Students will also work on three-dimensional representation in the multidisciplinary workshop. In the materials laboratory, the students will become familiar with the constructional basis and techniques of the Architectural Project, and in the installations laboratory, they will learn about the functions and behaviour of plumbing and electricity, and new technologies applied to sustainable design.

For architectural design, the representation of virtual objects and installations and digital modelling, there are technological laboratories with design programs such as Autocad, Photoshop, 3d Max, Rhinoceros and Illustrator.

Lecturers

The teaching staff consists of doctors, architects, engineers, artists and professional designers who work every day in companies related to the career opportunities of the students.Technicians of recognised prestige, with in-depth expertise in Heritage Restoration and the management of architectural works collaborate in the teaching of this degree.

Unique Features

Students can use the system of internships in building and remodelling companies, prestigious design and architecture studios and companies which manage and create events and exhibitions. Architecture Degree students also visit trade fairs relating to construction, materials, architecture, and in general, the most relevant design fairs in Europe and Spain. They also go to the Architecture Biennials of the Ibero-American University. As part of the Architecture Degree course, the University organises trips to cities with cutting-edge architecture, such as Barcelona, London, Amsterdam, New York, Los Angeles, Shanghai and Tokyo. Other trips contribute to students’ training in the history of art and architecture, such as Rome, Paris, Turkey, Greece, Vienna, Prague and Budapest.

Employment Opportunities

Students can have a successful career as architects in a studio, in construction or property companies, in government or in their own independent studios. They can also exercise their profession as Project Manager for construction companies, in the restoration of heritage buildings, town planning management, interior design, landscape design, as a graphic designer, in artistic direction or in event planning and set design.
