Degree in Aerospace Engineering

Presentation

The Aerospace Engineering degree equips graduates for careers in Aeronautical Technical Engineering, and is structured into four professional branches: Aircraft, centred on the design, development and management of aerospace vehicles and the materials used; Aircraft Engines, focusing on aerospace propulsion systems and the materials used in them; Airports, the design, development and management of airport infrastructure; and Air Navigation, the air navigation infrastructures and systems for managing airspace, air traffic and air transport.

At UAX

During the first year, the students revisit the concepts of drawing, mathematics, physics and other basic subjects to prepare them for university teaching. They also study Aerospace Technology and Production Management, where they deal with subjects directly relating to the aerospace world, enabling students to make their first contact with the foundations and application techniques of the aerospace sector.

In the second and third year, students begin to study more technical aeronautical concepts such as Aerodynamics, Flight Mechanics, Jet Engines, Airport Facilities, Airspace Management, and so on.

The course ends with students developing a final project in the specific technological fields of Aeronautical Engineering, synthesising and integrating the skills they have acquired. 

Facilities

Students can use the general laboratories such as the Physics, Chemistry and Materials labs, where they can carry out practical work relating to their theory classes, and more subject-specific laboratories such as Aerodynamics, with a wind tunnel, Jet Engines with a bench of jet engines used to analyse the behaviour of the functional parameters of the engines, and the Air Navigation lab where students can simulate air traffic management and navigation aids.

Lecturers

The teaching staff consists of doctors, physicists, chemists, mathematicians, and especially aeronautical engineers. As well as solid teaching experience, lecturers have important professional careers, helping students to make contact with their professional milieu.

Unique Features

Assignments are given linked to the world of aerospace design, development and manufacturing, and the organisation and management of aeronautical companies.  The calculation codes most widely employed in the aerospace field will also be used, such as NASTRAN, PATRAN, CATIA, etc.

There are visits to Spanish aeronautical companies and institutions such as the Instituto Nacional de Técnica Aeroespacial, Airbus, INDRA, ITP, etc., so that students can make direct contact with work in the field.

As there are several aerodromes and flying schools near the University, students who want to learn to fly can obtain the licence for this exciting pastime thanks to advantageous agreements with the University.

Employment Opportunities

Future Aerospace Engineering graduates will be able to work in areas including research and the design, manufacture and maintenance of aircraft, jet engines, missiles and satellites. They will be qualified to manage, organise and create facilities for research in these subjects, to project and compare technical experiments on land, air and sea with aerospace materials, models and prototypes, and can provide the technical advice and reports relating to aeronautical matters required by the authorities and official or private bodies.

These professionals will also be responsible for issuing airworthiness certificates, the regular or extraordinary inspection and revision of specifically aeronautical materials, and the inspection of manufacturing in industries which build, manufacture or repair official aeronautical materials.
