Degree in Podiatry

Presentation

The Podiatry degree at Alfonso X el Sabio University has a strong emphasis on practical work with real patients treated at the UAX Polyclinic, where students gain experience in professional level therapeutic treatments. Individual clinical classes and tutored therapeutic work enable students to acquire a unique set of professional skills which are highly valued in the sector.

Course Structure

During the first year, students study anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and psychology, equipping them for subsequent subjects relating to foot pathologies, prevention and treatment. Following this, students study treatments carried out by their teachers on real patients.

Lecturers

The teaching staff consists of doctors, pharmacologists, biologists, microbiologists, medical specialists and podiatrists who, in addition to their professional prestige, form a multidisciplinary team capable of giving students an overview of all aspects relating to podiatry.

Facilities

For clinical subjects, UAX offers its students the modern facilities of the Alfonso X el Sabio University Polyclinic, where they will come into contact with the healthcare facet, first in workshop and laboratory work, and later with real patients. Each patient is treated by a small group headed by a specialised teacher.

What make our University different

The subjects taught are related to general medical science, such as General Pathology, to social sciences such as Psychology, and modern languages, giving students a broad base from which to approach more specific subjects. Subjects such as General Podiatrics facilitate access to speciality subjects such as Podiatric Surgery.

Employment Opportunities

Although most students opt to work in the profession on a freelance basis, they are taught sector-related job-seeking skills and receive professional development courses relating to their career choice. There is also a seminar on career prospects, bringing them into contact with outside professors, pharmaceutical laboratories and distributors of podiatry products.
