Degree in Medicine

Presentation

The UAX uses cutting-edge resources and methods to teach its Degree in Medicine:

Problem-Based Learning (PBL), case studies, work experience requiring the gradual assumption of responsibility by the student, advanced technological facilities and a network of health centres covering all the fields students require for thorough training.
At UAX

The curriculum includes basic subjects that are essential to the solid scientific foundations of 21st century medicine, such as Genetics, Immunology, Anatomy and Physiology; and clinical subjects linked to Pathology, which form the central core of disease study and which teach students about the diagnosis, treatment and prevention illnesses.

Teaching Staff

The teaching staff for the Degree in Medicine is markedly multi-disciplinary from the earliest stages of the course. In addition to professors and doctors, classes are taught by biologists, pharmacists, jurists, statisticians, psychologists, etc. Moreover, throughout the academic syllabus, students are taught by doctor-teachers working in the majority of specialisations officially recognised in Spain at the current time.

Hands-on facilities

Throughout their learning, students will work in a wide range of laboratories. A human dissection room, designed specifically for this course and meeting the most demanding accreditation standards; a practical physiology room; clinical skills workshops and laboratories for histology, biology, bio-chemistry, bio?physics, genetics, immunology, micro?biology, pharmacology and other fields.

Work experience in Healthcare Centres

The UAX has signed agreements with the Madrid Regional Health Department so that its students can conduct work experience placements: Severo Ochoa University Hospital, Specialisation Centres and Health Centres in the former 9th district, the San José and Santa Adela Central Hospital of the Red Cross, the José Germain Mental Health Psychiatric Institute, Virgen de la Poveda Hospital and Tajo Hospital.

Distinctive Characteristics

Continuous improvement and excellence are a natural part of learning. Furthermore, we promote international mobility thanks to agreements The University has signed with various European universities. We want to ensure that, during their training, our students discover how health professionals from other countries work and the different ways of understanding the concept of health.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates in Medicine can work in medical care in the public and private health systems: medical care, prevention, promotion and recovery of health, and in outpatient, clinical and hospital specialisations. Furthermore, they can focus their professional career on teaching, bio medical research or the management, administration and direction of health centres and related companies.
