Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics

Presentation

The UAX Human Nutrition and Dietetics degree is structured over four years, during which time students acquire the skills needed to analyse and study the nutrition of individuals and groups, applying principles of prevention and health, assessing nutritional needs and deciding on nutrition for different periods and conditions.

Course Structure

In the first year, subjects studied include Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Languages, Computing, Anatomy and Physiology. From the second year, subjects specific to the profession are taught, such as Community Nutrition, Dietetics and Diet Therapy, Food Hygiene, etc.  Students can also undertake taught internships in hospitals, catering companies and retirement homes anywhere in Spain.

Lecturers

The teaching staff consists of doctors, medical specialists, biologists, pharmacists, psychologists, dieticians and nutritionists, etc. The lecturers for this degree include heads of staff at public and private hospitals in Madrid, hospital directors, catering unit managers in some leading hospitals, heads of nutrition in retirement homes, etc.

Facilities

For their practical work, students have the use of modern laboratories, classrooms and workshops, equipped with dummies, simulators and a wide range of healthcare equipment, in addition to the Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry labs. They also complete their experimental training in the Bromatology lab, where they study the production, handling, conservation, preparation and distribution of food and its relation to health.

Aware of the career fields open to Human Nutrition and Dietetics graduates, our students can acquire new skills such as optimising the performance of a kitchen or catering company, in this case through the subjects of Food Hygiene and Food Resource Management and Accounting.

Employment Opportunities

UAX students are valued very positively by the human resources departments of companies in the sector, as their theoretical and practical education is very thorough.  Graduates can work in hospitals and health centres, retirement homes, the food industry, catering companies, hotels and restaurants.
