Degree in Translation and Interpreting

Presentation

This degree is structured around communication skills in two foreign languages (English and French or German) and mastery of the native language; an understanding of the culture history and society of the source language countries; the development of professional skills, and knowledge of the specialist fields in which translators and interpreters work.

At UAX

The subjects are totally practical in their approach. The languages and the culture of the different countries where they are spoken are core subjects. Interpreting subjects are, or course, essential, working with English and with German or French, in professional laboratories. New technologies applied to translation are also important.

Teaching Staff

Faculty members are translators, interpreters and linguists with proven experience working with different media companies and also with film companies in the audiovisual specialisation. Most are working professionals, working with leading translation companies and agencies, institutions and official bodies.

Facilities

Students can use laboratories equipped with the latest technology and specific resources for learning and working in translation and interpreting. In the computer lab, there are 25 workstations where students can work on the subjects of new technologies applied to translations and term management, among others.

What makes UAX different

Students undertake internships in translation and media departments and in well-known translation and interpretation companies. The degree course includes study trips such as to the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Translation in Brussels, and the European Parliament. Students can also study part of the programme in Europe or the USA.

Employment Opportunities

Translation and Interpretation graduates will be able to work as professional translators, conference interpreters, audiovisual translators (film, videogames), linguistic mediators, sworn interpreters, technical writers, linguistic advisers, style correctors, project managers in translation companies, and as terminologists.
