What are ECTS credits?

ECTS stands for European Credit Transfer System. This system makes study programs easier for international and national students to undestand  and compare. Moreover, it facilitates mobility and academic recognition and helps universities to organize and review study programs. Furthermore, this system can be used for different programs and teaching methods, and makes higher education more attractive for students coming from other continents.

What do ECTS credits offer students?

The ECTS system provides students access to study programs in European universities and guarantees the academic recognition in these universities, by describing the contents of each subject, the number of credits and the workload required of students.

Which are the main features of ECTS credits?

  • ECTS credits are a numerical value (60 credits) allocated to course units to describe the student workload required to complete them. They reflect the quantity of work each course unit requires in relation to the total quantity of work necessary to complete a full year of academic study.
  • ECTS credits can only be obtained once the required workload is completed, and the learning results duly assessed.

Which are the documents necessary for ECTS?
